Friday, 31st October 2025 — The Osiwera Environment and Climate Development Initiative (OECDI) has taken another significant step toward advancing environmental stewardship and community sustainability in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nigeria.
As part of its ongoing efforts to promote grassroots climate action, OECDI paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, the Etsu of Dukpa, and held interactive sessions with youth leaders and community groups in the Gwagwalada Area Council. The visit focused on deepening community participation in environmental conservation, climate awareness, and sustainable local development initiatives.
During the engagement, OECDI representatives highlighted the critical role that traditional leaders and young people play in protecting the environment. They emphasised that fostering local ownership and participation is key to achieving lasting impact in areas such as waste management, tree planting, climate adaptation, and community resilience.
The Etsu of Dukpa, in his remarks, welcomed the OECDI team and expressed appreciation for their commitment to improving the environment and empowering rural communities. He reaffirmed the traditional council’s support for initiatives that contribute to cleaner, safer, and more sustainable surroundings.
Youth groups in attendance also shared their experiences and expressed readiness to collaborate with OECDI on future projects aimed at improving waste management systems, promoting green entrepreneurship, and enhancing environmental education among residents.
This engagement marks another milestone in OECDI’s broader mission to build inclusive and sustainable communities through environmental education, advocacy, and action. It also underscores the importance of partnerships between civil society, traditional institutions, and local communities in driving Nigeria’s green transition.
